Guardians of Cobourg’s Architectural Gem
Victoria Hall, a magnificent neo-classical masterpiece with Palladian influences, stands proudly in the heart of Cobourg. In 1971, this architectural treasure faced the threat of demolition due to years of neglect. Thanks to the tireless efforts of passionate citizens, Victoria Hall was not only saved but meticulously restored, culminating in a grand reopening ball in 1983. Today, it stands as a National Historic Site, a testament to the power of community preservation.
Our Legacy
The Victoria Hall Volunteers, originally known as the Volunteer Women’s Committee of Victoria Hall, was formed in 1975 by a group of dedicated women determined to save this historic landmark. Our initial fundraising efforts during the restoration period raised an impressive $50,000, demonstrating the impact of collective action.
